Students: Bridge

Bridge is an immersive learning and service experience for current Jr. High students (6th-8th grades). In partnership with Hesed House, students will spend 4 days in Wharton, TX, not just serving but learning about how Hesed House is working to create a community where everyone is valued and receives the resources they need to thrive. Throughout the 4 days, students will serve the community alongside their connect team members as well as worship and participate in games and other activities. In partnership with Stephanie Konvicka, Executive Director of Hesed House, and other community partners, our students will have the opportunity to learn critical problem solving skills while living into their call to be the hands and feet of Christ.

The event starts Thursday, June 5 and will end Sunday, June 8.
Each day, there will be interactive learning, serving opportunities and fun activities in the evening.

$150 per person.
This cost covers food, building materials, activities, worship, t-shirt, and more to make this event happen.
Scholarships/financial assistance is available for families in need. This includes paying installments, discounts and full coverage.

Students who are currently in the 6th-8th grade. High school students and graduates under 21 may be able to attend as an “intern” and can help. Also, Adults 21-and-over are much needed to serve and help transport students.

We will be in Wharton, TX! We will stay at Wharton’s First United Methodist Church.

We will be mindful of the work that 6-8th grade students are capable of doing. Many of the work projects are still being determined but they may include tasks like: painting, yard work, light constructions, and/or serving at nearby organizations (food banks, community centers, etc.).

Four churches/congregations will be participating in BRIDGE this year:
St. Peter’s UMC Kingsland Campus
St. Peter’s UMC West Campus
 First UMC of Katy
Holy Covenant UMC of Katy
Each of these churches are helping plan and organize this event and are excited to share this experience with each other.

This event cannot happen without adult leaders! The number of adults we have will determine the number of students that can participate in the event.
Adults will be helping:
  • Transport students
  • Help with serving projects
  • Participate in learning opportunities

We hope this helps you understand BRIDGE! If you have any further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to email your questions to studentministry@stpkaty.org.
