Students: Confirmation Pathway

Hello everyone!

Confirmation is an important step in a student's faith journey.  It is a time to learn more about our shared faith, what it means to be the church, and for students to understand their relationship with God better.   We are excited to share with you the Confirmation Pathways!

With self guided journals, students and their families are free to attend church events and complete tasks on a schedule that is complimentary to their lifestyle. Throughout the year, we will keep in touch with confirmands and notify them with new ways to progress on the path to Confirmation Sunday in May.

Please read our FAQs below for more information and how you can begin your pathway today!

This is an immersive learning opportunity for students to participate in along with their family & a guide. Students seeking to be confirmed will receive a journal that will contain experiences that will help them be in the life of the church and gain a better understanding of their Christian faith. Everything within this process is designed to help students feel more confident in their decision to be confirmed as they make their vows before God and their church family.

This year, we are continuing a process called The Confirmation Pathway. Our hope is this will be more accessible for all families and students, while at the same time giving students an immersive experience while growing in their faith and understanding what it means to be the church.

Families who wish to sign up for Confirmation Pathway and receive a journal may do so by contacting the leader of Student Ministries for their campus:

Kingsland Campus

Chad McElveen - Pastor of Student Ministries

Ethan Venker - Associate Director of Student Ministries

A guide is an adult who will support students as they go through this confirmation journey. Students will seek out who they want to be their guide (non-family and someone who attends St. Peter’s UMC). The guide’s main role is to encourage, assist, and check-in on students as they make their way through the pathway.

Throughout this process, students will experience and learn about both the life and practices of the church and many of the foundational, core beliefs of the Christian faith. Students and families will be asked to participate and attend various church events (worship services, serving opportunities, student events, etc.) as well as discovering better understanding of our Christian Faith (personal devotionals, Bible studies, etc.). Students will receive a journal that will have all the different experiences for this process.

The Confirmation Pathway does not have a specific weekly meeting time or class. Students can go through this process at their own pace. Though there is no “confirmation class”, students are asked to attend at least one of our regular, weekly student ministry events to be in community with other students and to learn/grow more in their understanding of their faith.

The events include:

West Campus Student Events:
Sunday School: Sundays at 10:30-11:30am
Life Groups: Sundays at 5:00-7:00pm
Midweek: Wednesdays from 6:30-7:30pm

Kingsland Campus Student Lesson Events:
Sunday School: Sundays at 9:00-10:00am
Life Groups: Sundays from 4:00-5:30pm
Midweek: Wednesdays from 6:30-7:30pm

Because everyone will go about this process at their own pace and what works best for their schedule, the time for completing the Confirmation Pathway will vary from each student and family. Students can begin as early as August and will have until April to experience everything within their journal. Confirmation Sunday is May 4.

Remember, this process is to help students feel more immersed within the life of the church, which is something that cannot be rushed. Our hope is this process invites students to participate more in the church throughout the year, and then after they are confirmed, they will continue being a part of it.

This is a good thing, and this process will encourage them to think more about how they are involved and why it is important to their faith. This process may help students try new things within the church and help everyone better articulate their relationship with God.

Yes! Because confirmands will be able to attend any student weekly event they want, we organized special events called “Lunch & Learns” for students throughout the year. These are times for students to connect, share a meal, and learn about their faith together. The dates for these events are:

September 14
October 12
November 9
January 11
February 8
March 7 (Day with the Bishop)*
April 12
April 19
April 26 (Confirmation Visits)*

Each of these will be at each campus from 12-1pm. Lunch and a devotional will be provided. Confirmands should try and attend each of these the best as they are able.

*These times may differ from other Lunch & Learn events

This will be a time when confirmands have the opportunity to share about their experiences and what they have learned about their faith to the pastors here at St. Peter’s UMC. This is not a test, but just a chance for students to articulate how they feel with their relationship with God and if they are ready for this next step in their faith journey, to be confirmed.

This will be on April 26 at 12-2pm

All students, 6-12th grade, can take part in the pathway.

For students wanting to go through Confirmation or seeking to be baptized, the Confirmation Pathway can be great!  Many students get baptized on Confirmation Sunday, while other Confirmands, who have already been baptized, get confirmed and remember their baptism.
